4oD touches down
Friday, June 8th, 2007On demand viewing 4 the nation
4oD, Channel 4’s brand new video on-demand service, has arrived. Viewers can easily catch up on the last seven days of programming, and watch clips and full-length programmes and content from C4’s archives, including Dispatches documentaries, and other hit shows including Desperate Housewives, Black Books, and The IT Crowd, as well as live footage from Big Brother.
The seven-day catch up service is available free of charge, and can be streamed on your desktop or watched on your TV. Other programmes are usually available for a one-off fee, typically 99p for most programmes and £1.99 for feature-length broadcasts and films. Virgin Media and BT Vision subscribers can watch 4oD content on their TV screens via their specific set-top boxes.
The service is currently only available to Windows PC users running XP on their machines – 3rd party Vista support is available, but not wholly supported by Channel 4. There are also plans to allow the service to be used on Macs in the near future.

Its good that companies are starting to see the shift in how viewer want to watch programmes, however if they make it too limiting they will find other ways to get it.
If its going to be a success it needs to work with Linux. Think Tivo or MythTV
