Five to give Trisha the chop

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

Chatshow mainstay Trisha Goddard is to be axed from the Five channel line up at the end of the current run.

According to Five CEO Dawn Airey, the “present economic climate” means that keeping the talk show queen on the line up is not a possibility.

“[The Trisha Goddard Show] has been a tremendous asset to Five’s daytime schedule,” said Airey. “I want to thank Trisha and the production team for their years of dedication and hard work. It is with great sadness and regret that we’ve come to this conclusion, but in the present economic climate, it feels like the right time to go our separate ways.”

Goddard, 51, who earns £500,000 a year, and has recently won her battle with breast cancer, is set to lose her presenting job along with 85 members of staff employed by her own production company Town House TV.

‘I have enjoyed every minute of my time working for Five and I am naturally saddened they have taken the decision to end our association,’ Goddard said.

‘I am particularly sorry for the fantastic crew and contributors who made the show and for the viewers who have supported us and given us wonderful feedback as we tackled issues that really affect their lives.

The Trisha Goddard Show currently runs from 10:30, weekdays on Five.
