Amazon Original Series | Our Top Picks for October 2017

The best of what's on Amazon Prime Video this month.

Amazon Instant Video is Amazon’s video streaming service, allowing users to watch films and TV for a contract-free monthly fee. Since its inception, Amazon has offered a range of titles to choose from, such as US shows you might not find elsewhere alongside exclusive film content. Much like Netflix, Amazon also hosts a number of Original series, which it has produced to be available exclusively on the platform. Amazon also features exclusive series that don’t air anywhere else in the UK. Here’s the best of what Amazon has to offer this month.

Lore (October 13th)

Based on the smash-hit podcast from Aaron Mahnke, Lore brings the audio spooks and scares to the screen in a blend of dramatic scenes, animation and archive footage and narration. Lore has been known as one of the best podcasts to deal with supernatural and real-life horrors, with the series unrooting the real stories behind folklore and scary tales.

Fans of the podcast will obviously want to check this out, but even if you’re just a fan of horror or true-crime, Lore is bound to be one to watch out for. The anthology aspect harkens to Netflix’s Black Mirror, with the added touch of real-world events giving it a frightening edge. Lore will be available to watch exclusively on Amazon Prime from October 13th.

Outlander Season 3 (New episodes every Monday)

The 3rd season of this time-twisting romantic drama is airing now on Amazon Prime Video, with new episodes dropping every Monday. Outlander sees a WWII nurse transported back to 16th century Scotland where she’s swept away by a sashing Highland warrior and gets embroiled in the violent Jacobite rising.

With its strange premise, you might think that Outlander is a bit too outlandish if you’re more interested in standard drama, but the strong performances and authentic setting keeps it grounded enough to enjoy. If you’re missing the swords and horses action of Game of Thrones but want something that’s a little less intense, Outlander is ideal. Catch every episode on Amazon Prime right now.

All Or Nothing (Now)

One of the few documentaries available on Amazon Prime Video, All Or Nothing follows American Football teams as they struggle through the NFL season. A must for sports fans or documentary viewers, All Or Nothing is a fascinating insight into a tough and gruelling sport that many British people won’t necessarily know about.

Season 1 follows the Arizona Cardinals during the 2015 season as they aim for the coveted Super Bowl, with season 2 charting L.A. Rams as they play their first season in L.A. after moving from St. Louis. You can watch both seasons on Amazon Prime Video right now.

Halt and Catch Fire (Now)

This period drama that charts the rise of personal computing and the internet has received critical acclaim and is exclusive to Amazon Prime Video. Halt and Catch Fire tells the story of the growth of the computer industry in the 1980s with an insider’s view into the personal relationships and drama that defined the highly competitive industry.

Halt and Catch Fire includes everything you expect from a quality drama in 2017, including amazing performances, clever writing and an atmosphere that’s worthy of film. You can watch all 4 seasons now, with the final 3 episodes due to air in October.
