The first trailer for the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery series has been released.
The first new Star Trek TV show in 16 years offers up a first look, with The Walking Dead’s Sonequa Martin-Green and Michelle Yeoh both appearing in the trailer.
The trailer also gives us a glimpse at the new USS Discovery starship that will feature in the series.
Famous Star Trek villains the Klingons can also be seen alongside the explosions and lens flare that have characterised the recent movies.
Bryan Fuller is the showrunner for the series, with the writer previously working on Hannibal and the ongoing Amazon Prime series American Gods.
In a Comic Con panel earlier in the year, Fuller said that they were planning on telling an ongoing story rather than “monster-of-the-week” episodes that characterised previous Star Trek series.
"It’s not going to be episodic. We’re going to be telling stories like a novel."
Fuller also confirmed that the series does not take place in the new movie timeline, instead being set in the same universe as series such as The Next Generation and Deep Space 9.
American channel CBS is airing the series in the autumn, with UK viewers able to watch the show on Netflix.
Netflix has partnered with the US network to broadcast the show on its platform in the UK, in a deal similar to Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
You can watch the full range of Star Trek series on Netflix right now.
