Top 5 Sky Box Sets | January 2018

Here's the best of what's available to watch in January.

The cast of Six Feet Under

Sky Box Sets features a huge range of TV series from all over the world, allowing Sky TV customers to get stuck into every episode of a number of shows. Sky Box Sets lets you watch your chosen show from beginning to end, so there’s no waiting around for the next season to be uploaded. Viewers can watch whenever they want on-demand, via TV or mobile device. This is ideal for watching one episode at a time or bingeing a whole series at once. With so much choice on offer, it can be hard to pinpoint the essential Sky Box Sets viewing. Here’s our pick of the best.

Six Feet Under

This iconic comedy drama about a family-run funeral company was one of the first big HBO shows to make an impact, but had largely been forgotten amongst the sheer wealth of quality TV released. When the Fisher family suffers a huge loss in the shape of the father figure, they must work together to fend off being bought out by a massive corporation whilst balancing their personal relationships.

Six Feet Under is a darkly funny drama, offering black laughs due to its grim subject matter and setting. Written by Alan Ball of American Beauty fame, the show continues the excellent world-building and character development from that film and evolves. Catch the full 5 seasons on Sky Box Sets now.

Blood Drive

This throwback grindhouse series takes everything you love about grotty 80s exploitation cinema and presents it as a TV show. Blood Drive takes places in the far future of 1999, where petrol and water are scarce, so cars are powered by blood. This Mad Max-style setting offers something unique in TV terms, with plenty of post-apocalyptic action.

Blood Drive was sadly cancelled after its first season, but it’s still well worth checking out if you’re into science fiction or want something you don’t have to think about too much. Fans of Mad Max will obviously love it, but Blood Drive offers something for every sci-fi enthusiast.

Girls

2017 saw the final season of Girls air, with the full 6 seasons now available to watch on Sky Box Sets. The brainchild of Lena Dunham (who also stars), Girls takes a darkly witty look at the lives of 4 20-something girls struggling to get by in New York. The show launched the careers of both Adam Driver (Kylo Ren in Star Wars) and Allison Williams, who you may have seen in Get Out last year.

If Girls sounds a bit too “rom-com” for you, don’t be fooled. The series is funny in a way many comedies aren’t, with the characters initially being a bit tough to relate to thanks to them being largely terrible people. If you can get past that, you’ll find one of the best shows in years. Just don’t watch it with your gran.

Britannia

Britannia is the first co-production between Sky and Amazon Studios, as well as being the latest Sky Original to make its way to Sky Box Sets in full for you to watch on-demand. This historical period drama is set in 43 AD and follows the Romans’ conquest of the British Isles, where they clash with the Celts.

Starring David Morrisey, Zoe Wanamaker and Kelly Reilly, Britannia channels everything you love about shows such as Game of Thrones and gives it a historical edge. The series features stunning locations, with shooting taking place in Prague and Wales, as well as epic battle sequences that will leave anyone into history satisfied.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

If you can’t get enough of the Marvel movies and are waiting in anticipation for Avengers: Infinity War, this acclaimed Marvel series is essential watching. Marvel’s AOS takes the character of Coulson (back from the dead after being killed by Loki) as he leads a team of S.H.I.E.L.D agents, facing threats both extraterrestrial and closer to home.

Whilst not as violent or “gritty” as the Netflix Marvel shows, AOS still provides all the superhero thrills and spill you’re after. AOS is a series that starts slow but just gets better and better as it goes along, reaching large heights in season 4. Watch all 4 seasons now on Sky Box Sets.
