BT Vision Summary
BT Vision is an IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) service operating in the UK. It offers viewers a combination of Freeview and on demand content, which is made available through a BT Broadband or BT Infinity connection in the home, with the option of some premium content subscription-based sports channels. Just like any other digital TV service, you use a set-top box to control what you watch.
You can order content, such as new movies, TV series episodes or Sky Sports, or just stick with the free-to-air channels shown on Freeview, such as BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, Channel 4 and Channel 5. BT Vision also lets you pause, rewind and record live TV with the Vision+ box, and provides access to popular on demand service BBC iPlayer through your TV.
BT Vision includes an extensive library of US and UK TV shows available on demand, along with classic and new release films, music videos and children’s TV. They are all advert-free and your access depends on the type of monthly BT Vision package you have at home.
Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 can be added to the monthly subscription for an additional cost, and these channels offer a range of different sports including Barclays Premier League football, Rugby League and golf.
BT Vision customers can also watch crisp, clear high definition TV, using the Vision+ box and an HD-ready TV.
BT Vision Services
The BT Vision service provides free-to-air digital TV channels, along with a wide selection of BT Vision on demand content and the option of some other subscription-only premium channels. There are two different packages to choose from, and the Vision+ set-top box lets you pause, rewind and record live TV. BT Vision also lets you access BBC’s popular iPlayer from your TV, along with similar catch-up services from the other major free-to-air channels ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
BT also provides a web and calls service, and in order to get BT Vision, you will need a BT Broadband or BT Infinity connection in your home with a minimum 12 month agreement. You will also need the BT Home Hub, but this is included when you get BT Vision, and you will need the Vision+ box, as well as an operational rooftop aerial.
There are various broadband packages available for BT’s web connection service, and each one is combined with a calls package. If you simply wanted home phone with BT then you can get a calls package without any other services in place. BT has its own landline service which you pay for monthly, and you need this in place for broadband, phone and the BT Vision digital TV service.
You can order BT Vision online and choose your ideal subscription from two individual viewing packages, Essential and Unlimited.
BT Vision Channels
With BT Vision you get all the Freeview and digital radio stations, so this includes BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, Channel 4 and Channel 5. You will also get the popular sister stations like BBC Three, BBC Four, ITV2, E4 and Film4, all with the added picture quality of digital.
Whilst BT Vision offers the free-to-air channels, it is very different from Freeview; you can access on demand and catch-up content through your set-top box and BT Broadband connection. The BT Vision service lets you download from a library of content, and this is stored on the Vision+ box. This box also lets you pause, rewind and record live TV, so you can control the Freeview channels whilst you are watching them. If you need to record something whilst you are out, or want to watch a good bit again, you can use the remote for these useful functions.
Both packages give you the Freeview channels, but they differ in terms of the inclusive on demand content. You need to have a BT Broadband connection to get BT Vision, but you can choose from a range of packages and prices promoted online, and the price for BT Vision digital TV is particularly competitive.
BT Vision Packages
TV Essential is the simple viewing package from BT Vision, which includes the Freeview channels available in your area, as well as a Vision+ box and access to free-to-air catch-up, such as BBC iPlayer, ITV Player and 4OD. You can then pay-per-view for any content on demand from Vision TV, Vision Kids, Vision Sport and Vision Music.
BT Vision’s TV Unlimited package is the comprehensive option; it includes Freeview channels, a Vision+ box and free-to-air catch-up, but instead of paying separately for anything from the Vision on demand packs you get full and unlimited access at all times, as well as ESPN for live sports coverage and highlights.
Movie fans can continue to build on their viewing by ordering brand new releases on Vision Box Office, where one fee is paid for one film, so you only pay for the movies you want to watch. Customers with TV Unlimited will also get unlimited access to loads of films from studios such as Warner Bros. and Sony, through the Vision Film Club.
Sports fans can add Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 to their viewing package and watch groundbreaking sports coverage, including exclusive live Barclays Premier League football, international and domestic cricket and Super League rugby. TV Unlimited customers also get access to ESPN, for even more sports live coverage and highlights.
In order to watch Sky Sports 1, Sky Sports 2 or ESPN, you will need to purchase the viewing card from BT Vision.
