Tee off the summer with Setanta Golf – The Players Championship at Sawgrass aka the "Unofficial Fifth Major", is due to arrive on screens in the UK and Ireland this May.

The Players Championship, whilst not an official major tour, is known unofficially as the 'Fifth Major' due to the grandeur and heightened atmosphere which descends upon the TPC Stadium Course at Sawgrass, Florida.

The course is famous for its testing design that rivals Carnoustie Golf Links in Angus, Scotland in terms of toughness and unpredictability; players have to face down over 400 acres of hard, narrow fairways which are framed by a menagerie of hazards, deep pot holes, marshes and water traps. Perhaps the Stadium Course itself is best epitomised by its 17th hole, known across the world as "the Island Green". The 3-par hole, located on a tiny, circular peninsula which juts out into a lake, is hidden behind a sand bunker which prevents a direct approach.

With the World No.1 Tiger Woods still out after surgery on his knee, its up to defending Players Championship winner Phil Mickelson to break the infamous TPC jinx – to this date, no player who has won the players championship has successfully defended it.

"It will be the same as other majors for me," Phil 'Lefty' Mickelson told reporters in the build-up for the prestigious PGA Tour event. "I'll usually take Monday off at a major, I'll play a practice round early Tuesday and Wednesday I'll go off site and get work done on areas of my game that need improvement."

Mickelson who won last year's title by two shots, expects a typically tough unpredictable challenge from the Stadium Course, the main difference being that the rough will exceed the two-inch depth from 12 months ago, making lost balls that much harder to retrieve, and that the greens have been cut so that they are that much faster than before.
