Top 5 Sky Box Sets | June 2019

Here's the best of what's available to watch in June.

Sky Box Sets features a huge range of TV series from all over the world, allowing Sky TV customers to get stuck into every episode of a number of shows. Sky Box Sets lets you watch your chosen show from beginning to end, so there's no waiting around for the next season to be uploaded. Viewers can watch whenever they want on-demand, via TV or mobile device. This is ideal for watching one episode at a time or bingeing a whole series at once. With so much choice on offer, it can be hard to pinpoint the essential Sky Box Sets viewing. Here's our pick of the best.

Sharp Objects

This dark adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s breakout novel stars Amy Adams as Camille Preaker, a troubled journalist who heads back to her hometown to cover the killings of two schoolgirls and must confront her past along with the fractured relationship between her and her mother.

Sharp Objects is Amy Adams’ first foray into the world of TV, and in classic HBO fashion she elevates it beyond just a TV show and instead turns it into more of an 8-hour movie. With excellent writing and stunningly stylish directing, Sharp Objects is an essential companion piece to the original season of True Detective.

This adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary detective stars Johnny Lee-Miller as Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Watson. With the action moved to NYC (thought Sherlock is still British), Elementary is a US crime procedural version of one of the most famous literary characters of all time, offering a fresh take on the detective.

Elementary is held up by Lee-Miller’s interesting take on the character, with Lucy Liu holding her own as well. Despite a number of filler episodes to pad out the long, network-mandated seasons, Elementary still manages to be a lot better than the BBC outing thanks to having Holmes and Watson actually solve crimes instead of just pure navel gazing.

Patrick Melrose

This witty and cutting look at Britain’s upper class stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular wealthy Englishmen who must attempt to overcome his addictions after suffering during his childhood at the hands of his father.

Patrick Melrose features a powerhouse performance from Cumberbatch, who is obviously in his element playing a posh guy navigating the 1980s. This is combined with stellar writing that manages to be both funny and heartrending. Catch the full miniseries now.

The Case Against Adnan Syed

Serial was one of the first podcasts that took the world by storm and allowed the true crime genre to enter its own Golden Age. The untold story of the murder of Hae Min Lee and the investigation surrounding it turned millions on internet users into amatuer sleaths, with the big question of did he do it or not still very much a hot topic.

This documentary series attempts to clear up some of the unused information from the podcast and catches up with the family of Syed now that he’s been granted a new trial in the wake of the podcast. Much like other HBO documentaries such as The Jinx, The Case Against Adnan Syed is slickly produced and fascinating, despite the grim subject matter.

Big Little Lies

This series took the TV world by storm when it first aired in 2017, and with its second season coming up later this month, now is the perfect time to catch up on Big Little Lies. Based on the book of the same name, the series revolves around a group of mothers who live in affluent Northern-California who lives change forever in the wake of a terrible accident.

Big Little Lies is a show that kept everyone guessing when it first released, with it being a very effective who-done-it mystery thriller that is massively elevated by performances from the likes of Nicole Kidman. The directing from Jean-Marc Vallee also took the series to new heights. Watch it now and stream the first episode of season 2 from June 10th.
