Warner Bros. denies rumours of a Harry Potter TV series

The studio has shut down the industry sources suggesting that it's on the cards.

Warner Bros. has denied reports that a live-action Harry Potter series is in the works at US streaming HBO Max.

The two have released a joint statement yesterday which says that “there are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform.”

This follows an article published by the Hollywood Reporter which alleged that executives at the streaming service had been engaged in discussions with potential writers about developing a Harry Potter series.

Their sources did emphasize that these talks were in the very early stages and that no story ideas had been agreed upon and no deals with any writers or other talent had been made.

If such a series were to go ahead however, there’s a vast amount of material directors and writers could choose from including an adaptation of the sequel play The Cursed Child.

Harry Potter is one of Warner Bros. most beloved and profitable franchises with legions of devoted fans all around the world.

It’s currently the third-highest grossing film franchise of all time, sitting behind only Marvel and Star Wars, having taken over a staggering $9 billion worldwide.

All eight Harry Potter films are available to stream on NOW TV
