FX has released the first official trailer for the second season of American Crime Story.
Based on Maureen Orth’s best-selling book Vulgar Favours, the series will explore the 1997 murder of iconic fashion designer Gianni Versace and the ensuing manhunt for his killer Andrew Cunanan.
The one-and-half-minute trailer opens up with a brief look at the immediate aftermath of Versace's (Edgar Ramirez) assassination before treating fans to their first glimpse of all of the main cast in character.
Singer Ricky Martin as Versace’s long-term boyfriend Antonio D’Amico appears covered in blood and screaming for help alongside Academy-Award winner Penelope Cruz as Versace’s sister Donatella dressed all in black and clearly grieving.
There’s also an extended sequence of the unstable Cunanan (Glee’s Darren Criss) committing one of his previous murders in Chicago and his later arrival on the Miami gay scene.
Creator Ryan Murphy and his frequent collaborator Brad Falchuk both served as executive producers on the show while Tom Rob Smith, who also authored mystery-thriller Child 44 starring Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman, wrote the script.
As with American Crime Story's first season The People Vs OJ Simpson, BBC Two will air the second season sometime in early 2018.
A third and fourth season are currently also in the works and will focus on the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the infamous sex scandal between then President Bill Clinton and White House intern Monica Lewinsky respectively.
