Bake Off Final most watched since 2012

The final of the Great British Bake Off was the most watched episode since 2012, it has been reported.

Ratings tracker BARB claimed that the final episode drew a huge 15.9 million viewers.

This is around a million more than last year’s final, and the highest viewing figure the show has seen since 2012.

The viewing figures put the episode amongst the top-10 most watched TV programmes of the decade - ahead of the 2010 World Cup match between England and Germany but behind a 2010 episode of The X Factor

Contestant Candice Brown was named the winner of what is due to be the last series of the show on the BBC.

Channel 4 purchased the rights to the show earlier in the year, meaning that it will move channels for its next series.

In the process, the programme lost a number of its big-name talents, including presenters Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc and culinary star Mary Berry.

The latest viewing figures are a huge number for Channel 4 to live up to, with its most-watched show currently an episode of Gogglebox which netted 5.8 million viewers.
