John Simm and Billie Piper have been cast as the two leads in new BBC2 thriller Collateral.
Written by David Hare, who’s also responsible for the 2008 academy-award winning drama The Reader starring Kate Winslet, the four-part series will explore the chain of events set off by the fatal shooting of a pizza deliveryman.
Simm will play a British politician who becomes embroiled in the plot through the actions of his disturbed ex-girlfriend Karen, played by Piper.
BAFTA award winning actress Carey Mulligan and Nicola Walker star of ITV’s crime drama Unforgotten are also set to feature, playing police detective Kip Glaspie who’s convinced there’s more to the crime than meets the eye and troubled Vicar Jane Oliver respectively.
“Collateral is a highly imaginative, thought-provoking and utterly contemporary state of the nation thriller written by Britain's foremost political dramatist,” said Piers Wenger Controller of BBC Drama. “It is a great honour to welcome Sir David Hare back to the BBC.”
Simm and Piper previously worked together on cult sci-fi show Doctor Who back in 2007 although they never shared any scences.
Collateral is set to premiere on BBC2 sometime in the second half of 2017.
