A new TV series inspired by the Child’s Play films is in development.
Horror film site Bloody Disgusting reported that long-time Child’s Play film producer David Kirschner will team up with franchise creator Don Mancini for a new TV show based around the murderous doll Chucky.
Brad Dourif (Lord of the Rings), who has been the voice of Chucky since his inception, is also set to return for the series.
Mancini claims that the series was set up with the ending of the most recent film, Cult of Chucky. The writer has scripted every single Chucky film as well as written for shows like Hannibal and Channel Zero.
Mancini added that the tone of the series would be dark and disturbing, in a way the more recent films weren't.
“We plan to use Child’s Play in the title… We want to definitely signal that we are going dark, darker than ever before. It’s going to be very creepy.”
David Kirschner added that the series would be a continuation of the Chucky story, rather than a reboot.
“I don’t think there’s a relationship that lasted this long. I’m incredibly excited about the series and to explore a world in which we’ve never done before. […] Don has taken the franchise in a wonderfully frightening direction. He seems to outdo himself every time.”
There’s no word yet as to when the Child’s Play TV series will emerge, though late 2019 would be a good estimate.
