A new TV series, based on the 1973 film The Exorcist, is coming to the UK.

Due to air on SyFy, the series is set 40 years after the events of the original film and will run for 10 episodes.

The Exorcist sees priests Father Tomas Ortega and Marcus Brennan tackle supernatural problems in Chicago.

The show is set to debut on September 23rd on FOX in the US, and is expected to air in the UK at some point this autumn.

The Exorcist is one of the most celebrated horror films ever, with the series aiming to echo the supernatural scares of the original.

The series stars Oscar-nominated actress Geena Davis alongside Alfonso Herrera and Ben Daniels as the priests who must solve the demonic goings-on.

Davis will play Angela Rance, mother of the Rance family who is afflicted with recurring nightmares thanks to her family’s demonic possession.

Colin McLeod of NBCUniversal International Networks said The Exorcist was set to be one of SyFy’s major programmes this autumn.

"Securing the UK premiere of The Exorcist is a major coup for Syfy and an ideal fit for the channel brand where viewers are encouraged to imagine greater.

"With its exceptional production values and stellar all-star cast, this exciting acquisition underlines our commitment to delivering our viewers bold, daring and must-see content.”
