Season 4 of Fargo won’t be aired until at least 2020, creator Noah Hawley has said.
The writer and showrunner of Fargo confirmed that any new season of the show would not be on screens until after 2019, due to the amount of work he is currently undertaking.
Hawley has recently been working on the new season of X-Men spinoff Legion, which is currently airing on FX.
In an interview, the creator said that he was also working on a number of film projects which will make it hard to start work on Fargo season 4.
“I think realistically we will certainly be filming it next year, but that doesn’t mean it will air then. “Mostly just because it’s a winter show. You know, I have to write [the episodes], then we have to prep it, then we have to film it, which means it’s either this coming winter or next winter.
“Given my schedule with making a movie and posting a movie this summer, and then gearing up to do more ‘Legion’ assuming we get a pickup. It seems like a long shot that I can launch ‘Fargo’ 4 this winter.”
Whilst season 4 of Fargo has not yet been officially confirmed, FX had previously been confident about it being part of its 2019 roster, which is now unlikely.
Despite a new season still being far in the future, Hawley has said that he does have an idea for the 4th season which will take the series to the setting’s past.
“I feel like the only reason to keep telling the story is if I feel I have something more to say about the American experience, really. Through the credence of a crime show, you know, we’re able to look at things that are very specific to this country.
“I certainly explored for the last couple of years the idea of greed and the things that people will do for money, which I feel like is a big part of the movie. But I feel like I’ve said what I have to say about that.”
You can watch all 3 seasons of Fargo as well as the film on Netflix right now.
