First trailer for Netflix’s Mute surfaces

The cyberpunk thriller will drop later this month.

The first trailer for Netflix Original Film Mute has been released.

Mute is the latest project from Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) and will appear exclusively on Netflix.

Starring Alexander Skarsgard, Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux, Mute follows Leo, a mute bartender in 2052 Berlin as he he searches for his missing girlfriend.

The trailer hints at what we can expect, with the look of the film aping the cyberpunk aesthetic of Blade Runner.

According to Jones, Mute takes place in the same universe as Moon and “takes a page from Blade Runner’s playbook”.

The director also recently tweeted that he wrote Mute before Moon (which was released in 2009) but was so impressed by Sam Rockwell’s audition for the film that he then wrote Moon specifically for the actor.

Since then, Jones has gone on to direct sci-fi thriller Source Code and fantasy video game adaptation Warcraft.

Mute had previously thought to only appear in a comic book version, but Netflix ended up commissioning the film (as it has with a number of indie projects).

The film is not the only cyberpunk-style Original to hit Netflix in February, with sci-fi noir series Altered Carbon hitting the service on February 2nd.

You’ll be able to watch Mute when it’s released on February 23rd on Netflix.
