A trailer for upcoming HBO mini-series Sharp Objects has been released.
The series, which stars Amy Adams, is an adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s novel of the same name and is set to air on HBO in July.
Sharp Objects follows a journalist who goes back to her hometown to report on a series of murders whilst experiencing flashbacks to her own traumatic childhood that eventually ties into the case.
Flynn’s work has been hot property for TV and film producers since the success of the film version of Gone Girl, which Flynn herself adapted for the screen.
Sharp Objects was Flynn’s debut novel and was nearly made into a film by Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank, Big Little Lies) in 2008.
Since then, the rights have been owned by Blumhouse Productions, with Big Little Lies director Jean-Marc Vallee now directing all 8 episodes.
The trailer for Sharp Objects is light on plot details but gives a good look at the tone and atmosphere of the series, which looks to be as dark as you’d expect.
Alongside Amy Adams, Sharp Objects also stars Chris Messina, Elizabeth Perkins and Sophia Lillis, who recently starred in 2017’s IT.
Gillian Flynn was recently signed to helm the Utopia remake for Amazon, it was reported yesterday.
HBO originally had the rights to Utopia and even had David Fincher on-board, but eventually let go of the project due to budgetary concerns.
Like all HBO series, Sky Atlantic will broadcast Sharp Objects when it begins airing in July.
