Actor Jim Broadbent has spoken out about the character he will play in the upcoming 7th season of Game of Thrones.
The British actor, who has had a huge presence in British TV and films such as Harry Potter and Hot Fuzz, revealed in a recent interview that his character would be a maester.
In Game of Thrones, maesters play the role of doctors and intellectuals, suggesting that Broadbent’s role will be a significant one.
Broadbent added that he filmed around 5 episodes for the new season, which is expected to air in the summer.
“I'm a maester. An archmaester. I'm an old professor character... I did five episodes. I did sort of one major scene in each episode.”
Fans have already started speculating what character he’ll specifically be playing, with Maester Marwyn and Archmaester Ebrose being the 2 names suggested.
Broadbent’s lax attitude to series spoilers mirrors Ian McShane’s, who told fans to “get a life” during an interview about his brief cameo in season 6.
Season 7 of Game of Thrones is expected to air in the summer, though a specific release date has not been announced yet.
Liam Cunningham, who plays Ser Davos on the show, suggested that it could hit screens in July.
"I've been disappointing various people around the world because it was meant to come out in April. It's July now, I think.”
Game of Thrones airs on Sky Atlantic in the UK. To find out how to tune into Sky this summer, check out Digital TV.
