Marvel’s Luke Cage renewed for second season

Netflix has announced that Marvel’s Luke Cage will return for a second season.

The series, which made its debut earlier this year, is part of Netflix’s ever-expanding roster of Marvel shows that fit into the overreaching arch of the Marvel films.

Luke Cage follows the superpowered titular character as he attempts to bring order to the Harlem area of New York, which is run by crime lord Cottonmouth.

The reveal was teased by the show’s official Twitter account, which posted a photo of Pop’s Barber Shop, one of the central locations of the series.

Whilst it is not yet known when the next season will air, it is unlikely to happen before the superhero collaboration series Defenders, which is due to air next year.

Luke Cage has joined Marvel favourites Daredevil and Jessica Jones with his own series, with Iron Fist and Punisher due to appear with series at some point in 2017.

Defenders will aim to bring the characters together in a series which mimics Marvel’s massively successful Avengers films.

Luke Cage was critically acclaimed when it launched earlier this year, with viewers praising the mature take on life in Harlem blending with comic-style superhero capers.

You can catch all of the first season of Luke Cage, as well as Daredevil and Jessica Jones, on Netflix right now.
