Hooray for free trials! Use them wisely.

Netflix Amazon Prime & NOW TV Free Trials

Using your streaming service free trials

If you’re new to streaming services then make sure you play it tactically. Setting up Netflix, Amazon Prime and NOW TV at the same time is far too gung-ho; check out the series you’d like to watch on each service, and then use one trial at a time.

You’ll get a month on Amazon and Netflix, or 14 days with NOW TV Entertainment and Sky Cinema, so that’s plenty of time to watch a whole series for free.  Well, 14 days might be a bit tight but if you hibernate for a whole weekend then you should be okay.

Once you tried each service then you can decide which one, or ones, you prefer to pay for.  The option to cancel at any time makes it great for entertainment-hungry viewers, because you can chop and change depending on which films and series are currently on demand.

Netflix

Netflix

How long is the Netflix free trial?

The Netflix free trial is one month, with the option to try out any of the three plans available.  Sign-up is easy; all you need to do is create an account through your email and password, followed by some card details.

The card won’t be charged during the trial period, and then the first monthly payment will come out at the end if you don’t cancel.

What do I get with a Netflix free trial?

You’ll get all the benefits that would come with your chosen package, but without paying.

You can choose the Basic package and get 1 screen/device at a time for streaming and unlimited viewing, or go for Standard and get 2 screens, as well as HD availability.  The top tier is Premium, which includes 4 simultaneous screens, along with some Ultra HD content.

Can I get a Netflix free trial without a credit card?

If you’re not happy about submitting card details then you can always use your PayPal account instead.  You shouldn’t need to have funds in your PayPal account to do this, although obviously you’d need funds in there if you want the account to continue past the free trial period.

It’s worth pointing out that Netflix does notify you by email before the trial is about to end, so you should know before a charge will come out, no matter whether you use a car or PayPal.

What happens after the Netflix free trial period?

A charge will be taken for the first month that follows your trial.  You are always charged for the month ahead, and it will go onto the card you submitted, or your PayPal if you used that to sign up.

How can I get another free trial on Netflix?

You’ll need another email address, which you should be able to use to start a new account with its own free trial.

It is unlikely Netflix will give you another trial period on an existing account unless you call customer services and unleash some kind of over-the-phone hypnosis.

How do I cancel Netflix without charge?

Just cancel before the trial ends; Netflix should notify you by email when you are about to get charged, so you can log in and cancel.

If you didn’t realise it was about to end, and didn’t see any email, then the subsequent charge would probably still stand.  You could contact Netflix, but any refund would be entirely at their discretion.

How do I cancel my Netflix account?

You can easily navigate to account settings from your Netflix homepage, and if you’re sure you want to stop the service then you can select ‘cancel membership’.  This will stop any further charges, but you should be able to reactivate the account, if you find yourself pining for some Netflix goodness.

How much is Netflix?

The ‘Basic’ Netflix package is £5.99 a month, and offers streaming on 1 device. As well as unlimited films and TV each month.

The ‘Standard’ package is £7.49 a month, with HD streaming available and an extra device added.

The ‘Premium’ package is £8.99 a month, and includes Ultra HD, with streaming on up to 4 devices.

Put simply, no.  You can buy NOW TV Sky Sports for a day, week or month, but there isn’t a trial period offered to customers.

How much is the NOW TV Sky Sports Pass?

The Sky Sports Day Pass is £6.99, and that’s 24 hours of unlimited access to Sky Sports content.

If you want to cancel then go to ‘my account, and then ‘my passes’.  There will be a list of your current NOW TV passes listed, with the option to cancel any of them.

With the NOW TV Entertainment Pass you get a 14-day free trial.  It carries on at the £7.99 a month rate after that unless you cancel, with no contract involved.

NOW TV does offer a deal on sticking with the service for longer, essentially taking up a contract, but it’s up to you.

What do I get with the NOW TV Entertainment Pass free trial?

You’ll get everything that comes with a NOW TV Entertainment Pass.  That’s over 250 box sets on demand, including exclusive new drama, as well as fan favourites.  You can also watch pay-TV channels live, like Sky 1 and Sky Atlantic.

There’s no limit to what you stream, and you can watch via a range of web-connected devices, or a NOW TV box.

How much is the NOW TV Entertainment Pass?

The NOW TV Entertainment Pass is £7.99 a month, but free for the first 14 days.

How long is the NOW TV Sky Cinema Pass free trial?

As with the Entertainment Pass, you get 14 days free to try out NOW TV Sky Cinema.

After the 14-day free trial for NOW TV Sky Cinema, the charge will start and continue until you cancel.  As it’s a rolling service it will renew itself monthly, but there is no contract involved so you can cancel whenever you like.

There is a contract option, and sometimes NOW TV offers a discount for taking it up, but it’s entirely up to you.

What do I get with the NOW TV Sky Cinema Pass free trial?

You get unlimited access to the massive Sky Cinema library of films.  There’s a new premiere each day, and viewers can enjoy everything from summer blockbusters to brooding dramas, with over 1000 movies available at any time.

What do I get with the NOW TV Kids Pass free trial?

With the NOW TV Kids Pass you’ll get thousands of episodes of kids’ TV on demand, with no adverts and no contract.  You can usually choose a longer-term deal and pay less, but that’s up to you.

How much is the NOW TV Kids Pass?

After the free trial it’s just £2.99 a month, but you can normally save money by joining for longer.  Although there is no contract with NOW TV, should you choose this offer you would essentially be taking a mini-contract for a few months, but there’s no obligation to do so.

How do I cancel my NOW TV account without charge?

If you’ve already accidentally exceeded the free trial and been charged, then you would probably be unable to get this back.  However, if you’re in your free trial and choose to cancel, there shouldn’t be anything to pay.

To cancel NOW TV, go to ‘my account’ and then ‘my passes’, and then you should see an option to cancel.

Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime

What is the Amazon Prime free trial?

The Amazon Prime free trial gives you full access to all the benefits of the service, such as Prime Video and unlimited one-day delivery on eligible items. You get it all free for one month, and then you can pay either an annual or monthly fee.

You get free, full access to Amazon Prime Video during the Amazon Prime free trial. This includes a range of titles on demand for free, as well as titles for rent at a reduced price.

What do I get with the Amazon Prime free trial?

The Amazon Prime free trial includes Prime Video, which offers unlimited instant streaming of thousands of films and TV series. What happens after my Amazon Prime trial ends?

Once the trial ends you will be charged either the annual or monthly fee for the service, unless you cancel.

How do I cancel my Amazon Prime free trial?

This is reasonably tricky to spot. Once you’re logged in and you go to ‘Prime’ you should see an option to cancel on the left-hand side of a desktop screen.  Even after you select it you’ll usually be presented with some attempts to change your decision.

It’s worth noting that if you are in your free trial then you can cancel at any time, and still get the full trial.  If you want to ensure it is cancelled without having to think about sorting it out a month later then cancel as soon as you sign up.  You’ll get all the benefits and it should simply cancel down automatically, with no charge.

If there are any issues with this, and you find yourself charged even though you set up the cancellation, then you’ll need to get in touch with Amazon.
