The sixth season of Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black has received an official premiere date.
Jenji Kohan’s acclaimed comedy-drama which explores the colourful lives of the inmates at the fictional Lichfield women’s prison will return for another 13-episode season on 27th July.
The show’s official Twitter account posted a Tweet earlier in the week containing a very short 20 second announcement teaser.
Bye bye, Litch. pic.twitter.com/Y9tWQtIO37— Orange Is the New... (@OITNB) June 5, 2018
We pan slowly over the empty and completely destroyed Lichfield cafeteria as a blue prison bus is seen pulling away through the window.
A voice, potentially Piper (Taylor Schilling), then says ominously “this is a whole new world” before the date 27th July and the tagline "to the max" flash up on the screen.
No official synopsis or trailer for the upcoming series have been released, but this strongly seems to hint towards the idea that last season's violent riot has resulted in at least some of the inmates being transferred to a more dangerous maximum security facility.
The majority of the main cast have already confirmed their return including Piper (Taylor Schilling), Alex (Laura Prepon), Sophia (Laverne Cox), Nicky (Natasha Lyonne), Taystee (Danielle Brooks) and Suzanne/Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aruba).
You can stream the previous five seasons of Orange Is the New Black on Netflix now.
