Netflix have ordered a prequel series to One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest which will explore the origin of its most reviled character, Nurse Ratched.
Created by Ryan Murphy, the show will span eighteen-hour long episodes spread out over two separate seasons and explore just how Ratched went from being an ordinary nurse to the cruel, tyrannical figure featured in Miloš Forman’s classic 1975 film.
Emmy award-winning actress Sarah Paulson, who’s previously featured in all seven seasons of Murphy’s popular anthology series American Horror Story, will star in the role originally made famous by Louise Fletcher.
The producer for the original film Michael Douglas will return as an executive producer for this new project along with Paul Zaentz, the nephew of the other original producer Saul Zaentz who has unfortunately since passed away.
Other cast member have yet to be confirmed but it's expected that the streaming giant will make further announcements soon.
Originally a novel written by legendary beat author Ken Keesey, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest was adapted into a feature-length film in 1975 starring Jack Nicholson and received widespread critical-acclaim along with an impressive five Academy-Awards.
American Horror Story's seventh season is set to premiere in the UK on Friday 8th September while the second season of American Crime Story, which will examine the events leading up to the 1997 murder of fashion mogul Gianni Versace, has just released its first teaser trailer.
