Netflix has ordered a new series from fantasy and horror director Guillermo del Toro.
The Oscar-winning director will create a horror anthology series for the streaming service named 10 After Midnight.
Del Toro will write and direct a number of episodes and hand-pick writers and directors to join him.
Netflix has said that the series will consist of “a collection of personally curated stories, that are both equally sophisticated and horrific".
10 After Midnight will be similar in structure to Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror, meaning that each episode will be a standalone story.
The series will allow the director to explore horror sub-genres he hasn’t worked with yet, with his interest in monsters and supernatural horror well documented.
Del Toro has famously had issues getting projects off the ground before, with the planned Hellboy 3 never happening as well as him leaving a number of films like The Hobbit, I Am Legend and Thor.
His Best Director win at this year’s Oscars seems likely to change that, with this being the first of presumably many projects to come from the director post-award.
Del Toro has experience in the TV world, with his vampire series The Strain being a big hit on FX.
10 After Midnight doesn't yet have a release date, though it’s expected to release at some point in 2019.
