Paul Bettany is in talks to star in season 3 of Netflix drama The Crown.
The actor, known for his turn as Vision in the Avengers films, is reportedly set to play an older version of Prince Phillip in the upcoming 3rd season of the show.
Whilst details on the 3rd season are still largely under wraps, Olivia Colman has been confirmed to be playing the Queen, with the series jumping ahead in time.
Doctor Who actor Matt Smith currently plays the role, but will leave after season 2 along with co-star Claire Foy.
The Crown is planned to run for 6 seasons, with the actors changing every 2 to reflect the age of the characters. Colman and Bettany would presumably star in the series for seasons 3 and 4.
Casting rumours have also gone beyond the role of Prince Philip, with Helena Bonham Carter rumoured to be coming onboard for the role of Princess Margaret.
The Crown is one of the most expensive TV series ever made, with it making up a large part of Netflix’s blockbuster series.
The streaming service has gone from strength to strength in terms of Original content, with rumours abound that it may eventually switch to Originals only.
This year, Netflix offers new seasons of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, as well as sci-fi thriller Altered Carbon, a reboot of ‘60s series Lost in Space and the Coen Bros’ Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
You can watch the first 2 seasons of The Crown on Netflix now.
