Apple TV has announced its first ever original TV series alongside some big casting news.
The tech giant has cast Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston for its new original series, with a 2-season order in place.
The series will mark Jennifer Aniston's first foray into TV since smash-hit sitcom Friends finished in 2004.
Witherspoon recently appeared on TV with the critically-acclaimed Big Little Lies, which was nominated for multiple Emmys at this year’s awards.
The series is being produced by production company Media Res as well as the 2 co-stars, with House of Cards writer Jay Carson acting as the showrunner.
Apple won a bidding war for the show, which will become its first original programming.
The tech company has been looking to branch into original content for a while now, with reports claiming that it was planning to invest $1 billion in it’s own programming.
The series is rumoured to be based on Top of the Morning, a nonfiction book by CNN host Brian Stelter about the early-morning show war between The Today Show and Good Morning America.
Apple already has its own content platform, with iTunes customers able to rent and buy films and TV shows and watch them on Apple devices.
Whatever it intends to do, it has enough capital and influence to potentially be a major player in thes streaming market.
