Ricky Gervais has announced that he will be part of a new comedy series on Netflix.
The comedian and actor will collaborate with the streaming service for the fourth time to create a new show named After Life.
Gervais has previously worked with Netflix to produce comedy series Derek, his film Special Correspondents and most recently his stand-up special Humanity.
After Life will also be written and directed by Gervais and he shared the official synopsis along with the announcement.
“Tony had a perfect life. But after his wife Lisa suddenly dies, Tony changes. After contemplating taking his own life, he decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on. He thinks it’s like a Super Power — not caring about himself or anyone else — but it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know.”
The series has been described as a “single-camera comedy”, meaning that it is likely to be filmed in a classic sitcom style.
Gervais made his name with The Office and his other collaborations with writer Stephen Merchant (including Extras and the woeful Life’s Too Short) and has since completed a number of solo projects and films.
Whilst there’s no current release date for After Life, filming is set to begin later on this year.
You can watch a number of Ricky Gervais shows, including The Office and Extras, on Netflix right now.
