Santa Clarita Diet will get a second season, Netflix today announced.

The gory California-set comedy has proven to be a hit with Netflix subscribers since it launched in February, but fans were concerned when a second season wasn’t announced shortly after the release.

Netflix confirmed the second season along with a broad release date of 2018 in a teaser video.

Santa Clarita Diet stars Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as Sheila and Joel Hammond who have to overcome Sheila’s longing for human flesh after she is turned into a zombie.

This mostly involves finding people for her to eat whilst maintaining a cheery California suburbanite image.

The writers and producers of the show are reportedly already working on scripts for the second outing, though it is not yet known when in 2018 it will debut.

Santa Clarita Diet is the latest of the long line of critically-acclaimed Netflix Originals, which recently featured shows such as A Series of Unfortunate Events, Luke Cage and The OA.

Netflix is due to continue the trend this year, with the final season of political thriller House of Cards, Marvel superhero team-up The Defenders and the second season of the nostalgic science-fiction spookfest Stranger Things.

Netflix subscribers can watch the entire first season of Santa Clarita Diet along with all Netflix Originals right now.
