Series of Unfortunate Events Netflix show gets release date

The much-anticipated Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events from Netflix has been given a release date.

A new teaser released yesterday revealed that the series will debut on Netflix on Friday, January 13th 2017.

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events is an adaption of the dark children’s novel series from author Lemony Snicket (real name Daniel Handler), which follows the Baudelaire orphans as they attempt to escape the clutches of the evil Count Olaf.

In the teaser, Lemony Snicket (played by Patrick Warburton) warns viewers to not watch in order to avoid the “cruel whims and whimsical cruelty” of what the series has in store.

The Series of Unfortunate Events novels are narrated by Snicket himself, who warns readers of what’s to come at the start of every book.

It was announced earlier in the year that How I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris would play the villainous Count Olaf, who was played by Jim Carrey in the poorly-received 2004 film adaptation.

Supergirl’s Malina Weissman and Barbarians Rising actor Louis Hynes are also due to star in the series, alongside Oscar nominee Joan Cusack.

Writer Mark Hudis has taken the showrunner role for the show, having previously been involved with hit shows That ‘70s Show and True Blood.

Netflix has increased the production of its series, recently releasing the critically acclaimed Stranger Things, Narcos season 2 and Marvel’s Luke Cage.
