A new trailer for the upcoming Stephen King series Mr. Mercedes has been released.

The series, which will air on the AT&T Audience network in the US, is an adaptation of Stephen King’s 2014 crime novel of the same name.

The novel follows a retired detective Bill Hodges as he tracks a killer who drives a Mercedes into crowds.

The book received critical acclaim from readers, with its blend of King-style horror and intriguing mystery earning it an Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America.

Mr. Mercedes stars Brendan Gleeson as the retired detective, with Penny Dreadful’s Harry Treadaway and Moonlight’s Jharrel Jerome also appearing.

The series suffered a huge setback during production due to the death of actor Anton Yelchin, who was set to star in the series.

Now, the show is set to premiere in the US on August 9th, with no UK release date as of yet confirmed.

Jack Bender, director of Lost and Under the Dome (another King adaptation) has directed much of the series, with Stephen King saying he was an ideal choice.

"I’ve admired Jack Bender’s work for years, both as a director on Lost and later, Under the Dome, where he really caught the suspense element. David Kelley is incredibly gifted. I’m excited to work with these amazing talents.”

Stephen King’s novels have been adapted to films and TV a huge number of times, with famous examples including The Shining and IT, the new version of which is due to release in cinemas later this year.
