Netflix have revealed the release date for their hugely anticipated superhero show The Defenders via information hidden within a brand-new teaser.
The series will unite the four superheroes, blind vigilante Daredevil (Charlie Cox), super strong private investigator Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), bulletproof Luke Cage (Mike Coulter) and mystical kung-fu master Iron Fist (Finn Jones), who we’ve previously met across their own individual series.
The sixteen-second clip shows them all entering a lift together on grainy black and white security camera footage.
Eagle eyed fans spotted that the time stamp in the upper-right corner of the teaser revealed the show’s release date by stopping on 8:18:20:17 at the end of the video, or 18th August 2017 in the American date format.
The upper left hand corner of the screen contains another Easter egg in the form of a URL address which when entered into a web browser take you to the online archive of the New York Bulletin, a fictional newspaper which has been referenced several times throughout Daredevil’s solo outing.
Marvel haven’t yet revealed many details regarding The Defenders plot, but have confirmed that Sigourney Weaver is set to take on the role of the villainous Alexandra.
Also set to make an appearance are several characters from each individual hero’s own show.
These include Foggy (Elden Henson) Daredevil/Matt Murdock’s law partner, Jessica Jones’s adoptive sister and talk show radio host Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor), NYPD Misty Knight (Simone Missick) who was assigned to investigate Luke Cage, Iron Fist/Danny Rand’s friend and fellow martial art expert Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) and nurse Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) who’s appeared in every series so far.
