Top 5 Sky Box Sets | July 2018

Here's the best of what's available to watch in July.

Riz Ahmed in The Night Of.

Sky Box Sets features a huge range of TV series from all over the world, allowing Sky TV customers to get stuck into every episode of a number of shows. Sky Box Sets lets you watch your chosen show from beginning to end, so there’s no waiting around for the next season to be uploaded. Viewers can watch whenever they want on-demand, via TV or mobile device. This is ideal for watching one episode at a time or bingeing a whole series at once. With so much choice on offer, it can be hard to pinpoint the essential Sky Box Sets viewing. Here’s our pick of the best.

The Night Of

This thrilling HBO mini-series is available to watch in full until September 24th. Starring Riz Ahmed, The Night Of follows a young man who is on trial for a murder he didn’t commit, with his lawyers racing against time to try and prove it to a jury.

The Night Of marks yet another quality series for HBO, which you can watch only via Sky Atlantic. Better yet, this a series that is only 8 episodes long, meaning you won’t have to dedicate hundreds of hours making your way through several seasons. The Night Of remains essential even a few years after release. Check it out now.

Patrick Melrose

This mini-series starring Benedict Cumberbatch is both witty and poignant and adapted from the acclaimed novels by Edward St Aubyn. Patrick Melrose follows the titular character as he attempts to overcome his addictions after the death of his abusive father.

Patrick Melrose takes a funny and twisted look at the British gentry in the 1980s, with a brilliant performance by Cumberbatch giving the drama a real edge. The series is another you don’t have to dedicate a lot of time to, making for an excellent standalone season of TV and a good companion piece (though not thematically) for The Night Of

The Jinx

If you’ve just finished watching the latest Netflix true-crime series The Staircase and are eager for more, The Jinx is available to watch in full on Sky Box Sets. This gripping series charts the life of real estate mogul and murder suspect Robert Durst, one of the strangest and most compelling documentary subjects you’re likely to encounter.

The Jinx is a documentary you won’t be able to stop watching, with Durst’s disturbing and fascinating life unfolding before you. This is definitely one you want to come into fresh, so don’t read up on it before you dive in. Watch it in full until August 28th.

True Detective Season 2

This much-maligned second season of the crime anthology series is available to watch now via Sky Box Sets. Starring Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams, season 2 of True Detective was critically panned on release, with the slow-burn noir feel making fans of the first season pine for the previous tone and aesthetic.

Whether you watch it on release and weren’t happy or avoided it altogether, True Detective season 2 deserves another shot. The series has stunning performances from its leads alongside a grim atmosphere and soundtrack that will leave you reeling.

Twin Peaks: The Return

Just over a year since the broadcast of this stunning slice of Lynchian horror, now is the time to revisit Twin Peaks in The Return. This series perplexed and mystified viewers in 2017 with its strange world, intriguing mystery and bold style that has not been seen on TV before or since.

If you’re a fan of the original Twin Peaks series and you haven’t delved into this before, you owe it to yourself to give it a go (just don’t forget to watch the spin-off film Fire Walk With Me first). Whilst its slow pacing might put some viewers off, the payoff and journey are well worth it. If you’re a fan of David Lynch’s other work, you’ll be gripped by every bizarre second of it.

Dale Cooper with the One Armed Man in the Black Lodge.
