Top 5 Sky Box Sets | June 2018

By Nathaniel Dalby - Wed 13th Jun 2018 Features

Here's the best of what's available to watch in June.

Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley in Big Little Lies.

Sky Box Sets features a huge range of TV series from all over the world, allowing Sky TV customers to get stuck into every episode of a number of shows. Sky Box Sets lets you watch your chosen show from beginning to end, so there’s no waiting around for the next season to be uploaded. Viewers can watch whenever they want on-demand, via TV or mobile device. This is ideal for watching one episode at a time or bingeing a whole series at once. With so much choice on offer, it can be hard to pinpoint the essential Sky Box Sets viewing. Here’s our pick of the best.

Big Little Lies

This adaptation of the best-selling novel was one of the biggest shows of last year, garnering 8 Emmy Awards in total. Starring Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley as 3 northern-California mothers, Big Little Lies revolves around a central mystery that spirals out into the cliques and gossip in an affluent and closed-off suburb.

Big Little Lies elevates a slightly obvious mystery story into something incredible with its exceptional performances (including a terrifying turn by Alexander Skarsgard), stylish directing and tense script. The show does what True Detective did in 2014 - take Hollywood production values and actors and thrust them into the world of television. At only 7 episodes, there’s no excuse not to jump in to Big Little Lies.

The Handmaid’s Tale

With its second season currently airing on Channel 4, Sky TV customers now have the opportunity to catch up with the show everyone’s talking about. The Handmaid’s Tale is based on the novel by Margaret Atwood and sees a dystopian US taken over by a religious cult that treats women as slaves for reproduction.

The series has been hugely critically acclaimed, with star Elizabeth Moss’ powerhouse performance making it an essential watch, if a tough one at times. Whether you’re a fan of the source material or not, The Handmaid’s Tale is gripping and chilling. Watch the first season now on Sky Box Sets.

Barry

Bill Hader is Barry - a former hitman who looks to the LA theatre scene for redemption. This epiphany is ruined, however, by people from his previous life trying to draw him back in. Barry is a dark comedy from writer and actor Bill Hader, offering a unique premise combined with great performances.

Barry is one of the many great HBO shows you can watch on Sky Box Sets, including Game of Thrones, Big Little Lies, Girls and The Sopranos. For a short slice of witty, dark comedy, Barry is a real treat. Watch the full first season right now.

Atlanta

For more original and mysterious comedy, Atlanta from FOX is also available to watch now until August 12th. Written by and starring actor/writer/rap artist/genius Donald Glover, Atlanta follows 2 cousins who must work their way through the Atlanta music scene in order to build new lives for their families.

As ever-present as Donald Glover is recently, this is for a good reason. The series offers a perspective seen all too rarely in comedy, blending interesting insight into the music industry with a host of great actors (including Lakeith Stanfield, who you may recognise from last year’s hit chiller Get Out). Watch the first season in full now.

The Tunnel

Game of Thrones’ Stephen Dillane and Harry Potter’s Clemence Posey star in this Anglo-French crime series which is adapted from the Swedish drama The Bridge. The Tunnel sees a British detective team up with a French counterpart after a body is found inside the Channel Tunnel. It’s up to Karl and Elise to solve the murder, which has ramifications for both their countries.

The Tunnel is just as gripping and addictive as its Scandinavian counterpart, taking what could be a bog-standard crime mystery and elevating it with terrific performances and a brisk pace that you won’t be able to tear yourself away from. Watch the full 3 seasons on Sky Box Sets now.
