The writer already has plans for the next season.

Mahershala Ali in True Detective season 3.

Nic Pizzolatto has talked about his ideas for any upcoming seasons of True Detective.

The 3rd season debuted on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV Entertainment on Monday evening after being gone for nearly 4 years.

Now the series creator has said that the making of season 3 has inspired him to make more episodes, if the show is renewed.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the writer said that he has a “really, really wild” idea for a 4th outing for the crime anthology series.

“Where do you even go after this [season]? ... But I have an idea that’s kind of crazy. I think it needs to percolate for a while. I was looking to do another series, maybe a movie, in the meantime, but yeah. I have an idea.”

Whilst Pizzolatto did not disclose what that idea may be, fans have speculated that the show could potentially enter a sci-fi realm or maybe feature extraterrestrial/supernatural elements.

True Detective season 3 was directed by Jeremy Saulnier, of Green Room and Blue Ruin fame, and it really shows, with the first 2 episodes featuring some stunning visuals.

Critical reception from reviewers has been middling, but fans of the first season will almost certainly enjoy the grim, Southern Gothic stylings of season 3.

You can catch all 3 seasons of True Detective now on Sky Box Sets and NOW TV Entertainment
