Andrew Lincoln may leave zombie series The Walking Dead after season 9.
The British actor, who plays the main character Rick Grimes, will reportedly quit the show after its 9th season, which is set to air next year.
Lincoln has apparently signed on to film a reduced number of episodes for season 9, with his potential departure being one of many shake-ups the show has endured over recent years.
Season 8 saw regular character Carl Grimes (Rick’s son) die alongside the “All Out War” arc, which included the defeat of main series villain Negan.
As well as Lincoln, actress Lauren Cohen (who plays Maggie) will also reportedly see a reduced workload when filming season 9 due to her being cast in a new show called Whiskey Cavalier.
Lincoln leaving has opened up speculation as to what he will do next, as he appears to have no major commitments announced.
The Walking Dead has, apparently, stopped the actor from taking a number of other roles, so this move is set to free him up after nearly a decade of working on the series.
Producers for the series have reportedly offered Norman Reedus, who plays fan-favourite Daryl Dixon, a big-money contract to step up as the show’s main character.
Whether this move will help the series’ falling ratings remains to be seen, with the show now nearly at the same point as the comic book.
You can watch the first 7 seasons of The Walking Dead right now via Amazon Prime Video.
