The first trailer for the upcoming second season of Westworld has been revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con.
The follow-up to last year’s debut season of the sci-fi Western won’t air until 2018, but HBO gave fans at Comic-Con a small taste of what they could expect.
The trailer sees a return for many of the major characters, including a gun-toting Dolores chasing down some unlucky Westworld punters, Ed Harris’ Man in Black revelling in the newfound violence of Westworld and robotic brothel owner Maeve in the aftermath of a massacre.
Westworld is a loose remake of the 1973 Michael Crichton film which sees the life-like robots in a Western-themed amusement park becoming self-aware and killing off the patrons.
The series takes this premise and infuses it with a more complex philosophy and strong sci-fi concepts such as artificial intelligence and what it means to be human.
The first season was generally well-received, with many praising the acting and authentic setting but some criticising the perhaps overly confusing, time-twisting story.
The finale of the first season saw the androids finally becoming fully self-aware and unleashing chaos on the visitors of the park.
There is some speculation that we’ll see the reveal of a different type of themed park, with some fans claiming that the presence of a tiger in the trailer suggests a Samurai-world.
Fans will have to wait until 2018 for the second season of Westworld, which is still in production.
