Westworld will return for a 3rd season, HBO has confirmed.
Despite the second season only being 2 episodes in, HBO has already ordered a 3rd, suggesting that the premium channel is confident in the series.
Westworld has been a hit since it first aired in 2016, with fans highly anticipating the second season.
Filming for the second season was held up by a number of problems, including on-set injuries and creative difficulties, meaning we’ve only seen the return of Westworld this year.
In theory, a third season would be much closer after this one ends, with a potential late-2019 release date due to the first half of the year being dominated by the final season of Game of Thrones.
During the first season, Westworld averaged around 13.2 million viewers each week in the US, with the high ratings turning into critical acclaim during awards season.
Whilst we don’t exactly know where season 2 of Westworld is taking us, it’s easy to assume that the writers have ideas for multiple seasons to come.
Before new episodes aired, the show teased that we would see ShogunWorld - another park that the company owns.
Season 3 could see another World being introduced, depending on where the story goes. Westworld has relied on viral marketing to tease plot points, with fans spending hours working on theories as to where the show is headed.
