One of the funniest films in years is getting a spinoff.

A pilot for a TV spinoff of What We Do In The Shadows has been confirmed.

US station FX has given the go ahead for a TV version to be worked on, with a 30-minute pilot planned.

The series will be worked on by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, who produced the original film, with Waititi directing and Clement writing the script.

The cast for the potential series has already been announced, with Kayvan Novak (Dangermouse), Matt Berry (IT Crowd), Natasia Demetriou and Harvey Guillen all confirmed to be part of a new cast of vampires.

What We Do In The Shadows is a mockumentary based around the lives of vampires living in New Zealand and trying to go about their everyday lives.

It was hugely acclaimed, with the film’s success landing Waititi the job on last year’s Thor: Ragnarok, which went on to make nearly 900 million at the box office.

This TV series is set to take place in the US and focus around a new group of vampires, with no confirmation as to whether Waititi or Clement will appear in the show.

As well as a TV series, a spinoff film is currently in production. Named We’re Wolves, the film will revolve around the group of werewolves seen in the original film.

The comedy duo have other irons in the fire, with the pair reportedly planning a New Zealand series, Wellington Paranormal, which will follow the bumbling police officers seen in What We Do In The Shadows.

Despite these plans, the future of FX is currently in question due to the planned acquisition of 20th Century Fox by Disney.
