Jean Grey gets firey in the new X-Men movie trailer.

Sophie Turner as Jean Grey in X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

The first trailer for the latest X-Men film has been released.

Subtitled Dark Phoenix, the film will follow the comic book storyline of the same name, in which psychic mutant Jean Grey is taken over by her evil alter-ego Phoenix.

As the trailer shows, everyone from the previous film (Apocalypse) is returning, including James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.

Jessica Chastain is also set to join the action as Smith alongside returning cast members Nicolas Holt, Tye Sheridan, Evan Peters and Sophie Turner, who plays Jean Grey herself.

The Dark Phoenix storyline has already been attempted in the X-Men franchise, with X-Men 3: The Last Stand loosely adapting part of the plot.

The film will be directed by Simon Kinberg, who has worked on the X-Men films previously as a writer and producer.

As well as a new trailer, the release date for the film has been announced, with it heading to UK cinemas on February 5th, 2019.

Dark Phoenix was originally intended to be released this year but was pushed back by Fox alongside The New Mutants.

Whilst there has been no explanation as to why this happened, the recent buyout of Fox by Disney might have something to do with it.

If seeing the trailer has put you in the mood for more X-Men action, you can catch X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Logan now via Sky Cinema and NOW TV
