Zack Snyder has signed up for a new zombie film for Netflix.
The director, best known for films such Man of Steel and 300, will direct Army of the Dead, a zombie horror set in Las Vegas which features a group of mercenaries staging a heist in the middle of the zombie apocalypse.
Army of the Dead was originally a Warner Brothers property before Netflix came in and bought the rights.
The film rights have reportedly been around since 2008, with Snyder originally on-board as a producer only.
Snyder has said that he excited to “dig in with both hands and make something fun and epic and crazy and bonkers in the best possible way.”
The director has previous zombie experience, formerly helming the 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake, which is arguably his best work.
Regardless of what you think of the sometimes controversial filmmaker, it’ll be refreshing to see him work on something that isn’t superhero-related.
Zombies are set to come back in vogue in 2019, with the Zombieland sequel also seeing release this year, 10 years after the original.
Recent news of a new Resident Evil Netflix series also ensures that zombie fans with a Netflix subscription will have plenty to sink their teeth into during the next few years.
