A League of Their Own series in the works at Amazon
The original film starred Geena Davis, Madonna and Rosie O' Donnell as the members of a successful all-female baseball team.
A TV series adaptation of A League of Their Own has been greenlit at Amazon.
Created by Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham, it’ll serve as a reimagining of Penny Marshall’s 1992 film of the same name which told a largely fictionalized account of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
The series will again be set within that league, which was formed in 1943 when America officially joined WW2, but focus on a brand new cast of characters.
As per the streamer’s official plot description, A League of Their Own will also take a deeper look at race and sexuality.
Alongside Jacobson, The Good Place’s D’Arcy Carden, Chanté Adams, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Kelly McCormack, Roberta Colindrez and Priscilla Delago will also star.
Sony Pictures Television and Amazon will produce with Russian Doll’s Jamie Babbit set to direct the pilot.
“Abbi and Will have done a masterful job of reimagining this timeless classic. We are very thankful to our partners at Amazon for bringing this incredibly relevant and important story to audiences around the globe,” said president of Sony Pictures, Television Jeff Frost.
A release date for A League of Their Own has yet to be confirmed.
