Dark Tower TV series dead at Amazon

Executives felt the pilot wasn't quite up to scratch.

Amazon has cancelled their plans for a TV adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series.

According to Deadline, the streaming giant announced that they were passing on the project after viewing the pilot.

Its executives reportedly felt it wasn’t on the same level as the other big-budget fantasy shows they’ve got in the pipeline, namely the Lord of the Rings and Wheel of Time.

Developed by former The Walking Dead show Glen Mazzara, the series would’ve been independent of the much maligned 2017 film starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey.

Set in a period long before, it was to explore how Roland (Sam Strike) originally became a gunslinger and first met arch-enemy ruthless sorcerer Walter (Jasper Pääkkönen)

Although a full cast was never officially announced its believed that Jerome Flynn, Michael Rooker and Joana Riberio were also involved

The production company is apparently shopping the script around to other networks in the hope they’ll pick it up.
