Amazon acquires the new Walking Dead spinoff series

All ten episodes of the show will arrive on the platform sometime in Spring 2020.

Amazon Prime Video has acquired the rights to broadcast the new Walking Dead spinoff in the UK and the rest of Europe.

The still as-of-yet-untitled series is set a decade after the deadly zombie outbreak began and will revolve around two young female protagonists who've grown up in this apocalypse.

While the original Walking Dead series and its first spinoff Fear The Walking Dead are now available to stream on Amazon Prime, this is the first time the platform has managed to obtain first look rights for the franchise.

The latter debuts first on FOX and the former has recently ended its fifth run on AMC UK, a channel that’s available exclusively to BT TV customers.

Created by Scott Gimple and Matt Negrete, the show began filming in the summer and is expected to hit Amazon Prime sometime in Spring 2020.

Amongst the main cast are Aliyah Royale, Alexa Mansour,  Annet Mahendru, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston and Nico Tortorella.

The first official trailer premiered last week at New York Comic Con promising the franchise's usual mix of gory zombie killing action and heartfelt human drama.

“An exciting and heartfelt survival story that will have our viewers sitting on the edge of their seats, this next series from the world of The Walking Dead will make an excellent addition to the growing catalogue of global event series available to Amazon customers,” said Prime Video executive Brad Beale.

You can stream new episodes of The Walking Dead season 10 weekly on NOW TV.
