Rosamund Pike to star in Amazon's Wheel of Time series
The Gone Girl actress has been cast as powerful sorceress Moiraine.
Rosamund Pike will star in Amazon’s upcoming adaptation of Robert Jordan’s best-selling fantasy series Wheel of Time.
The lengthy series, which consists of fifteen novels, is set in a sprawling unnamed world where magic exists but only certain women are capable of using it.
Pike will take on the role of Moiraine Damodred, a highly respected member of the powerful all-female organization known as Aes Sedai.
An official plot description released by Amazon reveals that this initial season will closely follow the first book in the series Eye of the World.
Damodred “embarks on a dangerous quest with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.”
Hemlock Grove writer Rave Judkins will serve as showrunner while author Brandon Sanderson, who worked to finish the final three books in the series after Jordan’s death in 2007, is to act as a consulting producer.
No further casting news has been announced and there’s not yet an official release date.
"The Wheel of Time is endlessly fascinating and resonates hugely with fans as one of the best-selling global book franchises, and we were drawn to its timely narrative featuring powerful women at the core,” said Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke.
Since its first entry was published in 1990, The Wheel of Time has sold more than 90 million books making it one of the most popular fantasy series of all time.
