American Crime Story season 2 gets UK premiere date

The Assassination of Gianni Versace will debut on Wednesday 28th February on BBC Two at 9pm.

The second season of Ryan Murphy's anthology series American Crime Story has received an official UK premiere date.

American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace will debut on BBC Two on Wednesday 28th February at 9pm for a total of nine one-hour episodes.

Adapted from American journalist Maureen Orth's best-selling true crime book Vulgar Favours, the show explores the troubled background of Versace's killer Andrew Cunanan as well as the extensive manhunt which ensued after he fatally shot the celebrated designer in 1997.

Glee's Darren Criss stars as Cunanan and Edgar Ramirez plays the flamboyant Versace while Puerto-Rican singer Ricky Martin is his long-term boyfriend Antonio D'Amico and Hollywood A-lister Penelope Cruz plays his sister and fellow fashion designer Donatella.

The five episodes which have already aired in the US have been very well-received with reviewers particularly praising Criss's intense performance, the dazzling cinematography and Murphy's delicate exploration of the period's homophobia.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace follows on from 2016's critically acclaimed The People vs OJ Simpson starring Cuba Gooding Jr, Sarah Paulson, Courtney B. Vance and John Travolta which went on to win an impressive nine Emmys and two Golden Globes.

Creator Ryan Murphy recently signed a $300 million deal with Netflix, reportedly one of the largest-ever overall deals for a showrunner, to produce a number of original TV series and films for the streaming giant.
