BBC suggests October release for Doctor Who

The BBC books an October appointment with The Doctor.

The BBC has said that Doctor Who will return “by October”.

The long-running sci-fi series will begin airing its 11th series in October, though the BBC has not yet given an exact release date.

The series finished shooting earlier this month, with the BBC only previously saying that it will hit screens between September 23rd and December 21st.

The show will be bucking the trend compared to previous series by only included 10 episodes instead of the standard 14 (including a Christmas special).

Series 11 of Doctor Who is set to be a big change for the series, with a new actor playing the Doctor in Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall taking over showrunning duties from Steven Moffat, who is currently developing a TV version of The Time Traveller’s Wife.

Whittaker will be the first female actor to play the titular role, something that has caused controversy among fan circles.

A trailer for the series was released last month, giving fans a glimpse as to what they can expect.

There has been a huge amount of secrecy surrounding series 11, with no episode titles or plot details revealed.

According to Chris Chibnall, this is due to a strategy to bring back live viewers, which have been dropping in recent years.

In an interview with Digital Spy, the writer said he wanted to bring back the idea of community viewing.

"Wouldn't it be brilliant if everybody watches these episodes at the same time, as much as possible? Doctor Who is one of those shows that can still hopefully do that.”

You can catch up with the first 9 series of Doctor Who on Netflix right now.
