Breaking Bad VR project in development

Viewers could be transported to the world of Breaking Bad.

Breaking Bad is set to get a virtual reality makeover, creator Vince Gilligan has confirmed.

Four years after the series ended in 2013, the show is due to return in the form of a VR experience.

Vince Gilligan confirmed that he was working with Sony's PlayStation division to create a “non-game, virtual reality experience”, presumably for Sony's PlayStation VR platform.

The project reportedly came about when Sony invited showrunners from its Sony Pictures Television-produced shows to its development offices in order to show off its VR capabilities.

Gilligan, who represented Breaking Bad, met with the likes of Battlestar Galactica's Ron Moore and The Blacklist's David Shore at Sony's studios.

Gilligan told Sony that he was interested in working with VR technology, spawning this new Breaking Bad project.

The project is expected to use computer graphics as well as live-action footage in order to create the experience.

It is not yet known whether series stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul would reprise their roles from the show, with the project still being in very early development.

Breaking Bad ran from 2008 to 2013 across five seasons and told the story of a school teacher who turns to drug manufacturing after he's diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The show was immensely well-received, with praise being given to Cranston's performance and the tight plotting that made each episode essential.

You can watch all of Breaking Bad as well as its prequel series Better Call Saul on Netflix right now.
