British stars win big at Golden Globes

Olivia Colman and Christian Bale both took home awards.

The annual Golden Globe Awards were held last night, with British talents winning across the board.

Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody won Best Drama, with its star Rami Malek taking home the Best Actor award.

Olivia Colman won Best Actress for her role in The Favourite, setting her up for a potential Oscar win later in the year.

The night was overall successful for British actors, with Christian Bale (who you might have forgotten is British) taking home Best Actor for Vice and Richard Madden winning for The Bodyguard

Ben Wishaw also won for the TV film A Very English Scandal, which he starred in alongside Hugh Grant.

Elsewhere, Sandra Oh won for her performance in the British/American co-production Killing Eve, though her co-star Jodie Comer was bafflingly not even nominated.

The Assassination fo Gianni Versace also enjoyed a number of awards, including Best Limited Series and Best Performance for Darren Criss.

Alfonso Cuaron also won Best Director for his Netflix Original film Roma, scoring a major win for the streaming service.

It is generally thought that the winners at the Golden Globes are likely to also win at the Oscars, though the lack of awards for films like A Star Is Born and First Man suggest this trend may be bucked.
