Cycling channel BIKE hits Virgin Media

A brand new cycling channel is now available for Virgin Media customers.

BIKE, which was launched last year on Sky but has now made its way to Virgin Media, is the first ever sports channel dedicated entirely to cycling.

It is estimated that around 5 million Britons cycle regularly, with the sport becoming increasingly popular in the UK.

The new channel will offer a variety of televised cycling, including BMX competitions, the DH World Cup and the UCI Mountain Bike Cross Country.

As well as this, the channel will be showing a number of original programs and documentaries.

These include shows such as ‘A Racer's Dream', which documents how a pro team prepares for the Mountain Bike World Championships and ‘The Greatest Climbs', which features some of the most famous climbs the cycling world has ever seen.

Programs such as these will be complemented by big names from the cycling world, such as two-time Giro d'Italia winner Paolo Savoldelli.

Chief Digital Entertainment Officer for Virgin Media, David Bouchier, said the growth of cycling in the UK made a dedicated channel a natural decision.

"You can't question the growth in cycling in recent years, and on our TV service it is all about people's interests and passions, be it more mainstream media or specialist channels.”

"We know there is a strong interest in sport from football to cycling so we're delighted to bring BIKE to Virgin Media homes.”

BIKE is set to have a packed inaugural year, with the 2016 Olympic Games in the summer providing plenty of cycling coverage.

You can catch BIKE now on Virgin Media channel 552.
