Dark renewed for third and final season

The final chapter of the German-language series will arrive in 2020.

German sci-fi thriller Dark has been renewed for a third and final season by Netflix.

Showrunner Baran bo Odar made the announcement on Instagram posting a picture of the finished script.

“It's official! We are working on Dark Season 3. It is the final cycle of this great journey,” he wrote. “Thank you, Netflix for trusting us! Thank you to ALL THE DARK FANS AROUND THE WORLD! You are amazing!”

Shooting for this third season is set to begin later this year for a release date in 2020.

This news comes just weeks before Netflix is set to drop all ten episodes of Dark’s second season on 21st June. Images released last year confirm that the time-hopping series will open with scenes set in 1921 and jump between timelines set in 2020, 1987 and 1954.

Dark first appeared on Netflix in 2016 as the streaming platform’s first original German-language series. It received excellent reviews from critics drawing comparisons to both Twin Peaks and Stranger Things.

You can stream the entire first season of Dark on Netflix now.
