Day of the Dead TV series in the works
The show will premiere on SyFy sometime next year.
A TV series based on George A. Romero’s classic 80s zombie film Day of the Dead is in development at SyFy.
This first season will consist of ten episodes and, unlike its big-screen counterpart, follow six strangers all struggling to survive over the first 24 hours of a zombie apocalypse.
The search is currently underway for a cast and directors.
Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas are to serve as both writers and showrunners with Cartel Entertainment, who’re behind streaming platform Shudder’s TV adaptation of Romero’s film Creepshow, producing.
The original Day of the Dead served as the third entry in Romero’s hugely influential franchise which explored different points of the same outbreak.
It focused on a small team of scientists and soldiers sheltering in a bunker in the Florida everglades while attempting to find a cure.
The latest installment in the franchise Survival of the Dead was released back in 2009, but a planned sequel Road of the Dead and a Cold War-set prequel Rise of the Living Dead are also in the works.
SyFy has also recently given a straight-to-series order to horror comedy The Surrealtor which follows a group of estate agents who deal with haunted and possessed houses.
Day of the Dead will premiere sometime in 2021.
