Dead to Me renewed for season 2
The show was a huge hit for Netflix and became its most watched show in May.
Dark comedy series Dead to Me has been renewed for season 2 by Netflix.
Series creator and showrunner Liz Feldman made the announcement at the streaming giant’s FYSee event in Los Angeles on Monday.
A specific release date hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s expected to premiere in 2020.
She’s set to remain as showrunner while both Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini will return as leads Jen and Judy respectively.
Dead to Me follows bitter widower Jen (Applegate) who meets and quickly befriends free-spirited Judy (Cardellini) at a grief counselling group. Nothing’s quite as it seems however as it’s slowly revealed that Judy is hiding a few dark secrets.
It received excellent reviews from critics who praised the two strong central performances and its sensitive exploration of grief.
Speaking about what’s in store for season two Feldman said “Just like the rest of the show, it’s not exactly what you think it’s going to be. There’s an evening of the score and there’s a rebalancing that will take place and almost, in some ways, a role reversal.”
“This show will always be a show that explores the dark sides and the light sides of grief, loss, forgiveness and friendship. So suffice to say, there will be more darkness.”
